We need to move beyond talking about racism, and start understanding how to create real change. So says lecturer and strategist Salem Manu before visiting Åsadalen.
Salem Manu works with organisations across Sweden to turn anti-racism into practical action. In this lecture, she explores what racism is, how it operates within society, and how it can appear even in spaces we rarely question–such as the worlds of dance.
Salem’s work is grounded in both academic and practical experience. Her bachelor’s thesis, “Don’t Touch My Hair”, which examined racism in the workplace, received an award and led to invitations to lecture across Sweden. Since then, she has continued to develop her work at the intersection of analysis, education, and organisational change.
Drawing on experience from the public sector, business, and civil society, Salem Manu combines political analysis with hands-on practice. She previously led the development of Gothenburg’s first municipal action plan against racism and now runs her own company, Med Manu, supporting organisations in strategic change and development.
The lecture offers both new perspectives and concrete tools for those who want to better understand– and challenge–racism in their own contexts.
Alongside her professional work, Salem Manu is also an active dancer and a member of the dance group Laces Creations in Gothenburg.

Vi behöver gå från att prata om rasism till att förstå hur vi faktiskt skapar förändring. Det säger föreläsaren och strategen Salem Manu inför sitt besök på Åsadalen.
Salem Manu arbetar med organisationer över hela Sverige för att omsätta antirasism i konkret handling. I den här föreläsningen utforskar hon vad rasism är, hur den fungerar i samhället och hur den kan ta sig uttryck även i miljöer vi sällan ifrågasätter – som dansvärlden.
Hennes arbete tar avstamp i både akademisk och praktisk erfarenhet. Hennes C-uppsats “Don’t Touch My Hair”, om rasism på arbetsplatsen, prisbelönades och ledde till att hon började föreläsa runt om i Sverige. Sedan dess har hon fortsatt att utveckla sitt arbete i skärningspunkten mellan analys, utbildning och organisationsförändring.
Med erfarenhet från offentlig sektor, näringsliv och civilsamhälle kombinerar Salem Manu politisk analys med praktiskt förändringsarbete. Hon har lett arbetet med Göteborgs första kommunala plan mot rasism och driver i dag företaget Med Manu, där hon stöttar organisationer i strategiskt utvecklingsarbete.

Parallellt med sitt arbete är Salem Manu aktiv dansare och medlem i dansgruppen Laces Creations i Göteborg.
